    Brand Concept

For consumers to feel reassured in using our superior bags, which are the result of our long history of manufacture and craftsmanship nurtured in Toyooka

The logo for Toyooka Kaban consists of one of the diamonds from the Yotsume-musubi (also known as Yotsubishi, or “four diamonds”) crest of the Kyogoku clan, the ruling family of the Tajima Toyooka Domain in the Edo Period, which encouraged and developed the Kiryu (Yanagi-gori basket trunks) industry from which our bags originated, with the addition of a bag handle.

    * “Toyooka Kaban” is a registered trademark of the Hyogo Prefecture Bag Industry Association. It was the first trademark to be approved by the Japan Patent Office as a regional association trademark on November 10, 2006.

The bags of Toyooka, a bag-making region with a 1,000-year tradition

Toyooka is a region that has a bag-making tradition that stretches back 1,000 years. “Toyooka, the Town of Bags,” has its origins in Yanagi-zaiku, or willow craft, that began in the Nara Period (710-794). The production of Yanagi-gori basket trunks flourished in the Edo Period (1603-1868), and since the Taisho Period (1912-1926), based on the traditional techniques and distribution channels that were established in those times, the region has become a major bag-producing region, trying out new materials and introducing machine-sewing techniques.
